5 reasons why Rooibos tea is good for your heart

We all want to take care of our health and wellbeing. And there’s no shortage of advice. The trouble is there’s too much – and so much of it is confusing, contradictory and downright crazy. Do this, not that, try the other... but not too much, and don’t forget to whatever! Who has time for all this stuff in their life?

Celebs and influencers, that’s who. You want me to buy a candle for $75 that smells like your WHAT?! Miracle psychic vampire repellent anyone – only $27! Like what planet are they on?

The craziest thing of all is that this whole wellness thing is making many of us feel worse - guilty that we’re failing! How nuts is that?

Take five with a cup of refreshing Rooibos tea. It’s easy to fit into your schedule. It won’t break the bank. And it actually does you some good. For very sensible reasons that are easy to understand.

In this post, we list just five ways Rooibos tea benefits your heart. Got your cuppa? Then let’s begin:

 1. No caffeine no problem

Caffeine isn’t for everybody. It can interfere with your sleep, help to dehydrate you, raise anxiety levels, cause blood pressure spikes and even bring on heart palpitations. Who needs that when there’s enough stress to go around already?

Rooibos tea, however, is naturally caffeine-free. You can drink as many cups as you like, hot or iced, and stay calm, relaxed and ready for whatever challenges the day sends your way.

2. Help with hydration

One thing most of us can get our heads around is the fact that drinking water is good for us. It promotes the healthy functioning of our body, including that of our hearts. But, for whatever reason, many of us neglect to consume sufficient quantities to keep our hydration levels up. Caffeine is a diuretic, so it encourages us to go to the bathroom. Caffeinated tea and coffee are therefore not the best ideas. Rooibos tea, however, is caffeine-free, so it doesn’t have this effect – it’s as hydrating as a glass of water. Struggling to drink all those recommended glasses of water? Treat yourself to Rooibos Rocks!

3. Calms the nerves

Life is so full-on these days that high levels of stress are something we’ve just grown accustomed to. But it’s definitely not doing us any good – raised heart rate and blood pressure are two things you really want to avoid. There’s no shortage of mindfulness apps, relaxation classes, therapies and miracle “stress-busting” products out there. But every Rooibos tea drinker will tell you that the fresh taste of this refreshing tea almost immediately sends a feeling of calm through the body. You can try all those other things if you have the time and the money, but a Rooibos Rocks cuppa works well too!

4. Could Rooibos tea help with preventing heart disease?

Rooibos tea could potentially head off some serious heart issues. Some small studies have shown that Rooibos tea could help with ACE (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme) inhibition. This enzyme has been shown to play a role in cardiovascular disease – you don’t want too much of it in your system. Research suggests that drinking Rooibos tea can possibly help with ACE inhibition 30 minutes after you’ve consumed it and that there’s also a possible positive effect on blood pressure. These initial studies, however, are small and more research is needed to confirm these effects.

5. Weight-management and Type-2 Diabetes

We’re constantly being reminded that sugar is bad for us and that most food and drinks products are loaded with the stuff. It’s bad because it makes us gain weight and carrying extra pounds puts pressure on the heart. Excessive consumption of sugar also helps us develop Type-2 diabetes. Thank goodness, then, for Rooibos - it has a naturally sweet taste so you don’t feel the need to add sugar. It’s no exaggeration to say that drinking Rooibos Rocks should add years to your life and probably keep you in good shape for longer.

Time for a cuppa!

For all these reasons Rooibos is good for your heart. It may not be the most sexy, trendy or cosmic suggestion out there. But it does fit easily into your busy schedule, is easy on your pocket and tastes great too.

Rooibos Rocks. A Moment of Calm in a World of Crazy.
